Muhammad: The Best Example of Morality and Virtue? Pt. 1

I am going to be responding to Paul Williams’ post here https://bloggingtheology.net/2016/12/08/26175/.

The Quran teaches that Muslims, or more specifically, Muhammad and his followers were the best of mankind:

Ye are the best community that hath been raised up for mankind. Ye enjoin right conduct and forbid indecency; and ye believe in Allah. And if the People of the Scripture had believed it had been better for them. Some of them are believers; but most of them are evil-livers. S. 3:110 Pickthall

According to the ahadith, one of the reasons why Muhammad and his men were so exemplary in their characters is because they would go around enslaving people in order to force them to become Muslims:

Abi Tufayl Amer al-Kinani said: The Messenger of Allah laughed and then said: Are you going to ask me about what I was laughing about? We said: Oh Messenger of Allah, what were you laughing about? He said: I saw people from my Ummah being herded into paradise IN CHAINS! We said: Who are they? He said: A group of non-Arabs taken prisoner by the Muhajirun and eventually enter paradise. [Collected by al-Haythami and authenticated by al-Albani]

And:

LXV: “You are the best nation ever to be produced before mankind.” (3:110)

4218. It is related from Abu Hurayra regarding,“You are the best nation ever to be produced before mankind”(3:110): “The people who are best before other people are those WHO DRAG THEM WITH CHAINS ROUND THEIR NECKS until they enter Islam.” (Aisha Bewley, The Sahih Collection of al-Bukhari, Chapter 68. Book of Tafsir https://bewley.virtualave.net/bukhari30.html; capital and underline emphasis ours)

Finally:

“Al-Bukhari recorded that Abu Hurayrah commented on this Ayah, ‘(You, Muslims, are) the best nation of people for the people, you bring them TIED IN CHAINS ON THEIR NECKS (capture them in war) and they later embrace Islam.’… Imam Ahmad recorded that `Ali bin Abi Talib said, ‘The Messenger of Allah said…

<<I was given what no other Prophet before me was given.>>

“We said, `O Messenger of Allah! What is it?’” He said…

<<I was given victory BY FEAR, I was given the keys of the earth, I was called Ahmad, the earth was made a clean place for me (to pray and perform Tayammum with it) and my Ummah was made the best Ummah.>>.’”

The chain of narration for this Hadith is Hasan. There are several Hadiths that we should mention here. (Tafsir Ibn Kathir http://www.qtafsir.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=503&Itemid=46; bold, capital and underline emphasis ours)

Here is how Williams’ unnamed Muhammadan tried to spin this:

Ibnul Jawzi said that this hadith is referring to people who were taken prisoner and then when they came to know about Islam and its beauty, they embraced it. They weren’t coerced into accepting Islam, but what led to their accepting Islam was ironically their initial capture and imprisonment.

So the Prophet is expressing his delight in the fact that the Muslim’s character and morals are so great, that even their prisoners of wars are getting impressed and adopting Islam eventually. It does not mean that they are being forced to accept Islam, nor does it mean that they are being imprisoned till they do or that they were imprisoned for that very purpose. The rules of war in Islam are known and need to be borne in mind.

Let’s see the beauty and morality of Muhammad and his companions, which supposedly impressed their prisoners so much that they decided to become Muhammadans themselves.

Raping Female Captives and Adultery

The Quran shamefully sanctions adultery and rape in certain situations. For instance, the following verse permits Muslim men (which includes Muhammad himself) to sleep with married women whom they have taken captive:

Also (prohibited are) women already married, except those whom your right hands possess: Thus hath God ordained (Prohibitions) against you: Except for these, all others are lawful, provided ye seek (them in marriage) with gifts from your property, – desiring chastity, not lust, seeing that ye derive benefit from them, give them their dowers (at least) as prescribed; but if, after a dower is prescribed, agree Mutually (to vary it), there is no blame on you, and God is All-knowing, All-wise. S. 4:24 Y. Ali

Tragically, this did not remain a mere abstraction but was readily put into practice by Muhammad’s sexually craved jihadists:

Abu Sirma said to Abu Sa’id al Khadri: O Abu Sa’id, did you hear Allah’s Messenger mentioning al-‘azl? He said: Yes, and added: We went out with Allah’s Messenger on the expedition to the Bi’l-Mustaliq and took captive some excellent Arab women; and we desired them, for we were suffering from the absence of our wives, (but at the same time) we also desired ransom for them. So we decided to have sexual intercourse with them but by observing ‘azl (Withdrawing the male sexual organ before emission of semen to avoid conception). But we said: We are doing an act whereas Allah’s Messenger is amongst us; why not ask him? So we asked Allah’s Messenger, and he said: It does not matter if you do not do it, for every soul that is to be born up to the Day of Resurrection will be born. (Sahih Muslim, Book 008, Number 3371 http://searchtruth.com/book_display.php?book=008&translator=2&start=0&number=3371)

And:

(3) 3016. Abu Sa‘eed Al-Khudri said: “On the Day of Awtas, we captured some women who had husbands among the idolaters. SO SOME OF THE MEN DISLIKED THAT, so Allah, Most High, revealed: ‘And women already married, except those whom your right hands possess….’” (Sahih)

[Abu ‘Eisa said:] This Hadith is Hasan.

(4) 3017. Abu Sa‘eed Al-Khudri said: “we captured some women on the Day of Awtas and they had husbands among their people. That was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah so Allah revealed: ‘…And women already married, except those whom your right hands possess….” (Sahih)

[Abu ‘Eisa said:] This Hadith is Hasan.

This is how it was reported by Ath-Thawri, from ‘Uthman Al-Batti, from Abu Al-Khalil, from Abu Sa‘eed Al-Khudri from the Prophet and it is similar. “From Abu ‘Alqamah” is not in this Hadith and I do not know of anyone who mentioned Abu ‘Alqamah in this Hadith except in what Hammam mentioned from Qatadah. Abu Al-Khalil’s name is Salih bin Abi Mariam. (English Translation of Jami‘ At-Tirmidhi, Compiled by Imam Hafiz Abu ‘Eisa Mohammad Ibn ‘Eisa At-Tirmidhi, translated by Abu Khaliyl (USA), ahadith edited and referenced by Hafiz Tahir Zubair ‘Ali Za’i [Darussalam Publishers & Distributors, First Edition: November 2007], Volume 5, From Hadith No. 2606 to 3290, Chapter 4. Regarding Surat An-Nisa’, pp. 331-332; capital and underline emphasis ours)

Thus, Muhammad and his deity condoned and encouraged men to virtually rape their female captives whether they were married or not.

Now unless Williams’ source wants us to believe that such women whose families had just been murdered and (in some cases) whose husbands were still alive would actually consent to having sex with their captors, it should be apparent that the Islamic deity is actually permitting, and even encouraging, rape and adultery in his so-called holy book!

How truly sad and tragic for these women that Muhammad and his god did not share the shame and concern of the jihadists regarding the highly unethical nature of raping captives whose husbands were still alive. Instead, Allah and his messenger rushed to justify such a perverted and heinous crime!

Contrast this filth with what Deuteronomy teaches concerning the issue of female captives:

“When you go to war against your enemies and the LORD your God delivers them into your hands and you take captives, if you notice among the captives a beautiful woman and are attracted to her, you may take her AS YOUR WIFE. Bring her into your home and have her shave her head, trim her nails and put aside the clothes she was wearing when captured. After she has lived in your house and mourned her father and mother for a full month, then you may go to her and be her husband and she shall be your wife. If you are not pleased with her, let her go wherever she wishes. You must not sell her or treat her as a slave, since you have dishonored her.” Deuteronomy 21:10-14

Here we see that, instead of permitting men to rape captive women, the Holy Bible forces the Israelites to marry them if they wanted to have sex with them, and then letting them go free in case of a divorce. This means that the Holy Bible is actually dignifying these women by not allowing them to be treated the way Allah and his “messenger” had them treated, namely like animals. Now this is a command which predates the Quran by approximately 2200 years!

To say that such an injunction was truly shocking and revolutionary for that time period would be a wild understatement, just as the following commentaries illustrate:

“The law focuses on the rights of the woman by stating that the man who marries a female prisoner of war and subsequently becomes dissatisfied with her, for whatever reasons, is not permitted to reduce her to slavery. Such a woman had legal rights in ancient Israel, and moral obligations ensue from the fact that the man initiated a sexual relationship with her. Perhaps the most significant conclusion to draw from this text is the respect for the personhood of a captured woman. A primary concern in the laws of Deut 21–25 is for protecting the poor and vulnerable in society from exploitation on the part of the powerful.” (Duane L. Christensen, Word Biblical Commentary: Deuteronomy 21:10–34:12 [Thomas Nelson Publishers, Nashville, TN 2002], Volume 6b, p. 475; bold emphasis ours)

“Throughout the ancient Mediterranean world, captive women of vanquished peoples were assumed to be the due sexual prerogative of the victors. This law exceptionally seeks to provide for the human rights of the woman who falls into this predicament… the verb ‘inah is also sometimes used for rape, and its employment here astringently suggests that the sexual exploitation of a captive woman, even in a legally sanctioned arrangement of concubinage, is equivalent to rape.” (Robert Alter, The Five Books of Moses: A Translation with Commentary [W. W. Norton & Company, 2008], p. 982; bold emphasis ours)

“The instructions given for the treatment of female captives in Deuteronomy 21:10-14 take it for granted that a conquering army have the right to dispose of the conquered population in any way that it wishes. It is hard for those coming from a different cultural context to see this as anything other than appalling, but this approach would have been unquestioned within the ancient Near East, and we have to see these instructions within that setting. What is remarkable is that although the woman may have had no choice in the matter--the soldier who fancied her has every right to make her this wife–nevertheless her identity as a human being is at least to some extent recognized. She is not to be thrown into the new situation but must be allowed time to mourn for her parents and her past life… Within these oppressive situations the laws are geared to provide at least a level of protection for the women involved… Women who were bought as wives or captured in war and taken as wives could not be sold as slaves or even neglected (Ex 21.11; Deut 21.14).” (The IVP Women’s Bible Commentary, eds. Catherine Clark Kroeger & Mary J. Evans [InterVarsity Press, Downers Grove, IL 2002], pp. 100, 102)

“The space given for weeping is not primarily a period of mourning (though it is perhaps to be assumed that the woman’s father has died in the herem; 20:13, 15). Rather, it is given in compassionate consideration of the large adjustment she must make, and the accompanying trauma. It is an acknowledgment, too, that her former life is ended and a new life is to begin (cf. Ps. 45:10). The hints of compassion breaking through the brutality of the age reflect an awareness of divine compassion, however limited by the thought climate of the times.” (Ian Cairns, Word and Presence: A Commentary on the book of Deuteronomy (International Theological Commentary), [William B. Eerdmans Publishing Co., Grand Rapids, MI 1992], p. 189; bold emphasis ours)

For more on the humanitarian nature of this OT passage we recommend the following article: A note on the humanitarian character of Deut 21.10-14 http://christianthinktank.com/remarkable.html.

Unfortunately, there’s more to the story. The so-called sound ahadith report that Muhammad taught that Allah has predestined the amount of adultery a person must necessarily commit:

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas:
I did not see anything so resembling minor sins as what Abu Huraira said from the Prophet, who said, “Allah has written for the son of Adam his INEVITABLE share of adultery whether he is aware of it or not: The adultery of the eye is the looking (at something which is sinful to look at), and the adultery of the tongue is to utter (what it is unlawful to utter), and the innerself wishes and longs for (adultery) and the private parts turn that into reality or refrain from submitting to the temptation.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 77, Number 609 http://searchtruth.com/book_display.php?book=77&translator=1&start=0&number=609)

Verily Allah has fixed the very portion of adultery which a man will indulge in, and which he OF NECESSITY MUST COMMIT (or there would be no escape from it). (Sahih Muslim, Book 033, Number 6421 http://searchtruth.com/book_display.php?book=033&translator=2&start=0&number=6421 – see also Number 6422)

In other words, these Muslims were only carrying out the very sexual filth which their god had predestined for them!

We will have more to say in the second part of our response https://answeringislamblog.wordpress.com/2016/12/11/muhammad-the-best-example-of-morality-and-virtue-pt-2/.

Muhammad: The Best Example of Morality and Virtue? Pt. 2

We continue with our rebuttal https://answeringislamblog.wordpress.com/2016/12/11/muhammad-the-best-example-of-morality-and-virtue-pt-1/ to Paul William’s post https://bloggingtheology.net/2016/12/08/26175/.

Prostitution in the Guise of Temporary Marriage

As if Islam’s teachings couldn’t get any more morally repugnant, Allah goes ahead and permits his followers to pay women to marry them temporarily for the sole purpose of gratifying their sexual desires. This is typically referred to as “pleasure marriages” (zawaj al-mut’a).

According to the Muslim expositors, the following passage,

O you who believe! Make not unlawful the Taiyibat (all that is good as regards foods, things, deeds, beliefs, persons, etc.) which Allah has made lawful to you, and transgress not. Verily, Allah does not like the transgressors. S. 5:87 Hilali-Khan

Was “revealed” to condone the practice of marrying women for a short period of time:

Narrated Abdullah:
We used to participate in the holy wars carried on by the Prophet and we had no women (wives) with us. So we said (to the Prophet). “Shall we castrate ourselves?” But the Prophet forbade us to do that and thenceforth he allowed us to marry a woman (temporarily) by giving her even a garment, and then he recited: “O you who believe! Do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Number 139 http://searchtruth.com/book_display.php?book=60&translator=1&start=0&number=139)

Narrated Abdullah:

We used to participate in the holy battles led by Allah’s Apostle and we had nothing (no wives) with us. So we said, “Shall we get ourselves castrated?” He forbade us that and then allowed us to marry women with a temporary contract and recited to us: — ‘O you who believe! Make not unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, but commit no transgression.’ (5.87) (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 62, Number 13o http://searchtruth.com/book_display.php?book=62&translator=1&start=0&number=13)

Pay attention to the fact that, instead of teaching his men abstinence and self-control, Muhammad actually goes ahead and encourages his band of murderers to search out women to commit sexual immorality and/or adultery with!

Sadly, there were instances in which women actually got pregnant through such unions:

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Urwa ibn az-Zubayr that Khawla ibn Hakim came to Umar ibn al-Khattab and said, “Rabia ibn Umayya made a temporary marriage with a woman and she is pregnant by him.” Umar ibn al-Khattab went out in dismay dragging his cloak, saying, “This temporary marriage, had I come across it, I would have ordered stoning and done away with it!” (Malik’s Muwatta, Book 28, Number 28.18.42 http://searchtruth.com/book_display.php?book=28&translator=4&start=0&number=28.18.42)

Other narrations claim that Muslims continued to observe temporary marriages until the caliphate of Umar b. al-Khattab:

Ibn Uraij reported: ‘Ati’ reported that Jabir b. Abdullah came to perform ‘Umra, and we came to his abode, and the people asked him about different things, and then they made a mention of temporary marriage, whereupon he said: Yes, we had been benefiting ourselves by this temporary marriage during the lifetime of the Holy Prophet and during the time of Abu Bakr and ‘Umar. (Sahih Muslim, Book 008, Number 3248 http://searchtruth.com/book_display.php?book=008&translator=2&start=0&number=3248)

Even more shamefully, the Shiite sect of Islam continues to observe this moral abomination till this day. They even attempt to use the Sunni sources themselves to establish that this morally repugnant form of prostitution is still permissible since Muhammad and his followers never abrogated it!

Murdering his enemies in cold blood

Muhammad wasn’t known for being tolerant of people criticizing him or questioning his prophetic claims. He would often have people assassinated simply for mocking him or writing poetry lampooning him.

The following list of murders is taken from Qadi ‘Iyad Musa al-Yahsubi’s book, Ash-Shifa’ bi-ta’rif huquq Mustafa (“Healing by the Recognition of the Rights of the Chosen One”), a work that is still considered a classic and must reading by Muslim scholars till this day:

In a sound hadith the Prophet commanded that Ka’b ibn al-Ashraf be killed. He asked, “Who will deal with Ka’b ibn al-Ashraf? He has harmed Allah and His Messenger.” He sent someone to assassinate him without calling him to Islam, in distinction to other idol-worshippers. The cause of that lay in his causing harm to the Prophet. That indicates that the Prophet had him killed for something other than idol-worship. It was for causing him harm. Abu Rafi’, who used to harm the Messenger of Allah and work against him, was also killed.

Similarly on the Day of the Conquest, he ordered the killing of Ibn Khatal and his TWO SLAVEGIRLS who used to sing his curses on the Prophet.

In another hadith about a man who used to curse the Prophet, the Prophet said, “Who will save me from my enemy?” Khalid said, “I will,” so THE PROPHET SENT HIM OUT and he killed him.

‘Abdu’r-Razzaq mentioned that a man cursed the Prophet, causing the Prophet to say, “Who will save me from my enemy?” Az-Zubayr said, “I will.” HE SENT az-Zubayr and he killed him.

It is related that a woman used to curse the Prophet and he said, “Who will save me from my enemy?” Khalid ibn al-Walid went out and killed her.

It is related that a man forged lies against the Prophet and HE SENT ‘Ali and az-Zubayr to kill him.

Ibn Qani’ related that a man came to the Prophet and said, “Messenger of Allah, I heard MY FATHER say something ugly about you, SO I KILLED HIM,” AND THAT DID NOT DISTRESS HIM.

Ibn ‘Abbas said that a woman from Khatma satirised the Prophet and the Prophet said, “Who will deal with her for me?” A man from her people said, “I will, Messenger of Allah.” The man got up and went and killed her. He told the Prophet who said, “Two goats will not lock horns over me.” (Muhammad Messenger of Allah (Ash-Shifa of Qadi ‘Iyad), translated by Aisha Abdarrahman Bewley [Madinah Press, Inverness, Scotland, U.K. 1991; third reprint, paperback], pp. 378-379; bold and capital emphasis ours)

Not only did Muhammad murder people for mocking him, he even had his thugs slay helpless women, including two slave girls solely because they wrote songs cursing him!

As a sidenote, pay careful attention to the man who murdered his own father for mocking Muhammad without a word of rebuke or punishment from Muhammad!

And speaking of Muhammad murdering female slaves…

Muhammad’s Black Slaves

Not too many people are aware that Muhammad was into buying and selling black slaves.

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah:

There came a slave and pledged allegiance to Allah’s Apostle on migration; he (the Prophet) did not know that he was a slave. Then there came his master and demanded him back, whereupon Allah’s Apostle said: Sell him to me. And he bought him for two black slaves, and he did not afterwards take allegiance from anyone until he had asked him whether he was a slave (or a free man). (Sahih Muslim, Book 010, Number 3901 http://searchtruth.com/book_display.php?book=010&translator=2&start=0&number=3901)

This hadith reports that Muhammad had two black slaves at his disposal to trade in for the other man. And presumably these two were Muhammad’s own property. If he had to buy them first before he could exchange them, why would he not just give the owner the value in money or whatever else he would have given the man he got the two from? Also, it seems that the black slaves were worth less than this non-black slave, so that is the reason for the 2:1 rate.

In fact, we know from historical documents (cf. Bernhard Lewis) in Islamic history white slaves got a much higher price than black slaves.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Thawr ibn Zayd ad-Dili from Abu’l-Ghayth Salim, the mawla of ibn Muti that Abu Hurayra said, “We went out with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in the yearof Khaybar. We did not capture any gold or silver except for personal effects, clothes, and baggage. Rifaa ibn Zayd presented A BLACK SLAVE BOY to the Messenger of Allah whose name was Midam. The Messenger of Allah made for Wadi’l-Qura, and when he arrived there, Midam was unsaddling the camel of the Messenger of Allah, when a stray arrow struck and killed him. The people said, ‘Good luck to him! The Garden!’ The Messenger of Allah said, ‘No! By He in whose hand my self is! The cloak which he took from the spoils on the Day of Khaybar before they were distributed will blaze with fire on him.’ When the people heard that, a man brought a sandal-strap or two sandal-straps to the Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah said, ‘A sandal-strap or two sandal-straps of fire!'” (Malik’s Muwatta, Book 21, Number 21.13.25 http://searchtruth.com/book_display.php?book=21&translator=4&start=0&number=21.13.25)

Muhammad got a black slave boy and he starts working for Muhammad. No mention is made that Muhammad freed him.

Narrated ‘Umar:

I came and behold, Allah’s Apostle was staying on a Mashroba (attic room) and a black slave of Allah’s Apostle was at the top of its stairs. I said to him, “(Tell the Prophet) that here is ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab (asking for permission to enter).” Then he admitted me… (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 91, Number 368 http://searchtruth.com/book_display.php?book=91&translator=1&start=0&number=368 – cf. Bukhari 3.648, 6.435, 7.119)

Notice that the above narration doesn’t say “the black slave of Muhammad,” but says “A black slave” which is an indication there were more than one.

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

Allah’s Apostle was on a journey and he had a black slave called Anjasha, and he was driving the camels (very fast, and there were women riding on those camels). Allah’s Apostle said, “Waihaka (May Allah be merciful to you), O Anjasha! Drive slowly (the camels) with the glass vessels (women)!” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 73, Number 182 http://searchtruth.com/book_display.php?book=73&translator=1&start=0&number=182)

In addition to the above listed hadiths there are a considerable number of other black slaves mentioned which were owned by `Aisha or some of the companions of Muhammad.

Finally:

Narrated ‘Urwa on the authority of ‘Aisha:

On the days of Mina, (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah) Abu Bakr came to her while two young girls were beating the tambourine and the Prophet was lying covered with his clothes. Abu Bakr scolded them and the Prophet uncovered his face and said to Abu Bakr, “Leave them, for these days are the days of ‘Id and the days of Mina.” ‘Aisha further said, “Once the Prophet was screening me and I was watching the display of black slaves in the Mosque and (‘Umar) scolded them. The Prophet said, ‘Leave them. O Bani Arfida! (carry on), you are safe (protected)’.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 15, Number 103 http://searchtruth.com/book_display.php?book=15&translator=1&start=0&number=103)

The highlighted term in the above hadith, e.g. “the display of black slaves,” may suggest that there was a slave market in the mosque. Obviously, where there are slaves, there must be slave markets, but in this case this is a mistranslation.

It is ‘Id time (a festival) and as in many parts of the world at festival times, there are people who entertain others. At the time of Muhammad one such aspect of the entertainment included playing with weapons, similar to a modern day circus dagger thrower. The above expression should correctly be rendered “the play of black slaves in the Mosque.” [Moreover, the black slaves are actually are called Sudan, i.e., sud is black.

There’s more. Here is what Muhammad said about the fate of black skinned people and the day of judgment:

On the Day when (some) faces will be whitened and (some) faces will be blackened; and as for those whose faces have been blackened, it will be said unto them: Disbelieved ye after your (profession of) belief? Then taste the punishment for that ye disbelieved. S. 3:106

And on the Day of Resurrection thou (Muhammad) seest those who lied concerning Allah with their faces blackened. Is not the home of the scorners in hell? S. 39:60

Muslims usually try to understand these verses as being metaphorical without racist connotations.

However, there are some hadiths that link black skin and creation with judgment day:

Abu Darda’ reported God’s messenger as saying, “God created Adam when He created him and struck his right shoulder and brought forth his offspring white like small ants. And he struck his left shoulder and brought forth his offspring BLACK as though they were charcoal. Then He said to the party on his right said, ‘To paradise, and I do not care’, and He said to the party in his left shoulder ‘To hell, and I do not care‘.” Ahmad transmitted it. (Mishkat Al Masabih, English translation with explanatory notes by Dr. James Robson [Sh. Muhammad Ahsraf Publishers, Booksellers & Exporters, Lahore-Pakistan, Reprint 1990], Volume I, Chapter IV, Book I.- Faith, pp. 31-32)

Narrated AbudDarda’
Allah’s Messenger said: Allah created Adam when He had to create him and He struck his right shoulder and there emitted from it white offspring as if they were white ants. He struck his left shoulder and there emitted from it THE BLACK OFFSPRING as if they were charcoal. He then said (to those who had been emitted) from the right (shoulder): For Paradise and I do not mind. Then He said to those (who had been emitted) from his left shoulder: They are for Hell and I do not mind.

Transmitted by Ahmad. (Al-Tirmidhi Hadith, Number 38 –

ALIM Online Version http://www.alim.org/library/hadith/TIR/38)

For these traditions, it is much harder to resist the impression of racist overtones. They do not speak about people being whitened or blackened at the time of judgment, but link their original skin color with their eternal destiny, i.e. Allah decreed that blacks will enter hell in contrast to whites. Moreover, all Muslims know that the right hand is the hand for eating and greeting. The left is used for ‘other’ matters, such as for defecation and cleaning one’s private parts. The right shoulder of Adam saw the white folks emerge, while the black folks came from his left. The white race is called ‘seeds’. Seeds grow and produce. The black race is compared to coals which are used to produce heat by burning. This is then juxtaposed to those going to heaven and hell where they will either flourish or burn.

As if Islam’s racism couldn’t be anymore evident, there are other narrations that even command killing anyone who says that Muhammad was black!

Ahmad ibn Abi Sulayman, the companion of Sahnun, said, “Anyone who says that the Prophet was black SHOULD BE KILLED.” (Muhammad Messenger of Allah (Ash-Shifa of Qadi ‘Iyad), Qadi ‘Iyad Musa al-Yahsubi, translated by Aisha Abdarrahman Bewley [Madinah Press, Inverness, Scotland, U.K. 1991; third reprint, paperback], p. 375; bold and capital emphasis ours)

Ahmad ibn Abi Sulayman, Sahnun’s companion, said that whoever says that the Prophet was black IS KILLED. The Prophet was not black. (Ibid., p. 387; capital emphasis ours)

So much for the spin that Williams’ fellow cohort tried to put on the ahadith. The fact is that Muhammad’s morality is the last thing that would make anyone ever consider following him or his god!
